PPCX 800787 - Wisconsin Valley |
Description: |
The 2019 New River Gorge Fall Colors excursion started out with an early morning boarding. We were thrilled to be aasigned to the "Wisconsin Valley", one of the passenger cars belonging to the Friends of 261. The car was built by the St Louis Car Company in 1953 as US Army Hospital Car #89553. Amtrak piced it up in 1973 and converted it to Le Pub lounge car #3403. It was later rebuilt in the early 1980's as Heritage Lounge #3103. The Friend of 261 acquired it in 2001 and upgraded the interior significantly. We would to be riding in leisurely beauty! |

The shiiny stainless steel kitchen/buffet is located at one end of an open car. For the New River Gorge Fall Colors, it was not used to serve hot food but it has all the capabilities to do so. |

Next to the kitchen lounge area are a few four seat tables and beyond is the open lounge area with seats facing each other but could be moved to face out if desired. The whole car was decorated in warm browns, tans and orange. Note the Milwaukee logo on the divider glass panels and the soft overhead can spotlight. |

The soft beige chairs were extremely comfortable - great for the rather long round trip to Hinton, WV through the New River Gorge. The enlarged windows made it very easy to see the scenery on both sides. |
