Description:  With the number of local trains decreasing slowly but steadily, I've pretty well resigned myself to chasing the two 'guaranteed' morning trains - either at St. Catharines, or here at Niagara Falls, where CN Train 421 veers off the Grimsby Subdivision onto the Stamford Subdivision at Clifton.

Description:  Way further west from where the switcher was working I came across what I thought was a resting locomotive set. But within minutes the engines perked up, and I was treated to some fine action in brilliant sunshine. Special treat was the third locomotive - a dazzling red SD40-2F rebuild. WOW!

Description:  OK. I'm totally in love! (Don't tell Natalie!). What a beautiful beast! Looks like a cross between a Draper Taper and an F40PH. The GMD SD40-2F is a 3,000 horsepower C-C diesel locomotive built by General Motors Diesel. It was fundamentally an SD40-2 in a cowl unit with full-width body. A total of 25 units were built solely for the Canadian Pacific Railway. They were delivered in 1988 and 1989, after the end of production of the regular SD40-2.
