Viewing Album:  Kent is getting a new bridge.

Album Info:Fairchild Rd. is a convenient way to get into town for many people coming from the west. For as long as anyone can remember, Fairchild ended at the west side of the Cuyahoga River. Folks would have to turn left then right, cross Crain Ave. bridge and turn right again on N. Water St. All this to get downtown. With the new bridge all that will be required is 1 right turn. The bridge will go over CSX and cross the former EL at grade. I'll update this as I can.

A lot of work is being done along the old EL.

Description:  I finally was able to get some answers. The concrete to the left will be fitted with track and the track to the right will be done next year. The concrete track bed has pilings 8 ft deep under it. This section of the EL is supported by a retaining wall shown in other pictures in this album. It was decided not to add to the existing wall, but rather stabilize the track structure. All this work is part of the National Gateway Project. When completed, CSX will finally be able to run double stacks on the New Castle Sub.
