AMTK 528 |
Description: |
A San Diego-bound "San Diegan" has just crossed the Santa Ana River and entered the city of Orange on a typically gloomy April day in 1975. The five car train is being pulled by one of Amtrak's ubiquitous SDP40F diesels (built by EMD in June 1973). In the background, just behind the rear of the train, one can see the Orange Freeway (the "57 Freeway") under construction in Anaheim, and beyond that is Anaheim Stadium, the home since 1966 of the California Angels (later renamed the Anaheim Angels, and currently the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim). This stadium, now renamed Angel Stadium, is, in 2012, the fourth oldest baseball stadium in the major leagues (behind Boston's Fenway Park [1912], Chicago's Wrigley Field [1914] and L.A.'s Dodger Stadium [1962]). |

MTA 7126 |
Description: |
New York Citys Yankee Stadium, located in the Bronx, is served by three MTA subway lines: The No. 4 train (East Side) and the B and D trains (West Side). Seen at the 161st Street/Yankee Stadium station is one of the 4 trains ("Lexington Avenue Express" from Brooklyn to Woodlawn), disgorging a large number of fans for the game between the Yankees and the Cincinnati Reds on May 18th, 2012. (The "Bronx Bombers" would go on to beat the Red 4-0 behind a stellar pitching performance by veteran Andy Pettitte.) |

VMR 120 B |
Description: |
As with many big cities, the sports complexes in Phoenix, Arizona, are served by light rail. Valley Metro Rail light rail vehicle 120 B (built by Kinkisharyo International) winds its way down Jefferson Street in front of Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball franchise. On this December 1st, 2012, the weather is pleasant. But during the summer baseball season, the stadiums roof is usually closed to prevent the hot desert sun from making things unbearable for both players and fans. |
