Title:
PRR 9628, AF-16, 1962
Description:
Byerly. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by William D. Volkmer that was taken in Enola, Pennsylvania, in June of 1962. Photo Caption: "Alco FA-2 #9622, 1600-hp, at Enola, Pa." Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9628 and two other units ~ one by ALCo, the other by GM-EMD ~ whose road numbers are not recorded. #9628 is an AF-16 built by the American Locomotive Company in December of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in January of 1967 after just 16 years of revenue service. They are parked adjacent to the PRR's Enola Enginehouse. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Diesels On The Pennsylvania" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (819-28).
