Illinois Central 2-8-2 Mikado #1453 sits in the scrap line at the Proviso yard. Built by Lima in October of 1923 as IC #1965 (serial #6557), it was rebuilt and renumbered to IC #1453 (as seen in this photo) in June of 1940. After nearly 33 years of service it was sold for scrap in May of 1955. Rebuilt specs - 63.5" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 308,500, tractive effort of 65,868 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
