This unit was spotted at Conrad Yelvington's Vulcan Quarry north of Calera, and to my knowledge only recently arrived on the property. It was built for the Pennsy and most recently was Alabama & Gulf Coast 2202. I apologize for the bad lighting and foreground clutter, but this is the only shot I could get without blatantly trespassing. |

EMD 6/63...Ex-Alabama & Gulf Coast #2180...exx-Kyle RR same R/N...exxx-CSX #4223....exxxx-Chessie System GP30 #3029....nee Chesapeake and Ohio same R/N. From 1981 t0 1983 34 C&O and 33 B&O GP30 units were rebuilt in Cumberland and Huntington with updated wiring and some Dash 2 modular electronics added, IDAC wheel slip control and D77 traction motors. The 16/567 prime mover was resealed and derated to 2000HP. The turbocharger has been retained. Conrad Yelvington carries 4 GP30Ms on their roster. |
