Although lettered for the Central Railway of New Jersey, coach 104 was owned by the New Jersey Department of Transportation and leased to the CNJ. Built by Pullman-Standard in 1947 as Great Northern 1130, the car was originally fitted with 48 seats and was remodeled with 108 seats when sold to NJDOT in 1973. (approximate month) |

Description: |
108 seat commuter coach converted from EMPIRE BUILDER 48 seat "long distance" leg rest chair, built in 1947 by P-S in Lot #6718 to Plan #7497. Intended to be renumbered as BN #4810, which was not applied, retired in 1971 and sold in 1973 to CNJ/NJDOT as #104, to NJT #5301, retired in 1987 and donated to the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey, sold in 1991 to the Pacific Railroad Preservation Association (SP&S #700), painted in Pullman Green & Omaha Orange EMPIRE BUILDER colors and named ICE LAKE, currently out of service.Scanned with an Epson V550 from a duplicate 35mm slide, brand is unknown. Exact date is approximate. |
