SOO 735  Contributor's Pick!
I remember a time when GP30s and GP35s were new! The first time that I ever saw any it was on the west end of the St Paul Union Depot! They were on a westbound Milwaukee freight train which was going either to Minneapolis and perhaps west on the H&D meaning "Hastings and Dakota" or it was waiting to follow a passenger train and then cross the Mississippi River on the joint Milwaukee/ Omaha track to the I&M meaning "Iowa and Minnesota". It was a very long time ago to remember and there was no real way for me to have known! But I do remember that trains leaving the passenger station would often see a signal that appeared as Yellow over Green which was called Approach Medium! But that was on a railroad where the signals indicated speed and not a route thru a junction or interlocking!
