| Amtrak E9 409 at about 18th Street in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in October 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Amtrak 409 was built in May 1956 to Union Pacific specifications as Milwaukee Road E9 205A (c/n 21611) on EMD Order 2075, was renumbered shortly after delivery to MILW 35A. The Milwaukee took over UP's passenger connections to Chicago from the C&NW on October 30, 1955 and purchased six A-B-A sets of new E9's to provide sufficient power for the new business. This locomotive was sold to Amtrak in 1971. |
