MP GP7 228
MP GP7 228 at Stafford, Kansas on August 16, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 228 was built in March 1952 as MP GP7 4230 (c/n 16154), was renumbered to 228 sometime after the 1961 general renumbering, and was upgraded to 1600 horsepower with MP's own four-stack exhaust manifold, which reduced back pressure by as much as 70% (translating into about a 10% increase in horsepower). Renumbered to 1670 (1st) around 1974, it was retired in December 1979.
