Amtrak cafeterea-diner 8399 was originally Union Pacific lunch counter-dining car 4003, one of four such cars (4000-4003) built under ACF Lot 3813 in 1955 with a 21-seat lunch counter and four 4-seat tables. In 1960 the 4001-4003 were remodeled with a cafeteria counter and a 16-seat lounge for service on the CITY OF ST. LOUIS. The 4001 was sold to the Alaska Railroad in 1971, while the 4002 and 4003 went to }mtrak in 1974 and were remodeled into cafeteria-diners 8398 and 8399. (approximate month) |
