| After this train the Chester Sub would be shut down for about 5 hours at the Thebes Bridge. A SB that was on the Illinois approach got caught at the 117 detector and stopped on the bridge. While walking the train the conductor spotted a tugboat and some barges that got loose in the heavy currents of the (very flooded) Mississippi and one of them struck the bridge. After which the dispatcher halted all activity until the bridge inspector arrived and did his work. Finally at around 4 PM the inspector gave an OK and all trains were moving again. |
