Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad GP20 483 at Flippin, Arkansas on October 10, 1994, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. At the time of this photo, this locomotive was the power for the White River Scenic Railway's tourist train. The train was parked overnight in a residential neighborhood, so the locomotive was shut down during the evening. Upon arrival in the morning, the Engineer started the locomotive according to the instructions in the EMD Owners Manual as follows: Test for water accumulation in cylinders. With the cylinder test valves open, isolation switch in 'start' position, and fuel pump off, use layshaft manual control lever to hold governor power piston in 'shut-down' position and turn engine several revolutions by pressing engine 'start' button. If discharge of water at test valves is noted, do not start engine until cause of discharge is corrected. |
