This view of TV 301 shows a wide view of the Chemung River as it approaches Corning. The tracks are the former Erie, the empty space to the left was the Lackawanna right of way. To the right, is the still building NY 17 bypass around Corning. Drivers wishing to go through Corning at this time still have to go downtown, following what is now NY 352-Dennison Pkwy-through the middle of town. The roadway will be open in the next year or so, but the 4 lane will end here until the segment connecting to the rest of the Southern Tier Expressway is completed in 1995, vexing train chasers who still have to go though town and deal with a couple of lights to try and stay with the train. If you had some luck and the slowpokes stayed out of your way, you had a chance. Im standing on the NY 414 overpass.
