EFCX 606 with a month to live
This one really disgusts me. After years of switching the elevator, 606 suffered a piston failure. Repairable, but probably beyond the mechanical talents of the elevator. So, to their credit, they donated 606 to the Siouxland Historical RR Society in Sioux City, with the clause that it had to be moved in X amount of time (they were moving it every time they had to bring in fertilizer). And, shockers, Siouxland did....nothing. So, the Nebraska Rwy Museum in Fremont was contacted, and they turned it down (VP there said he wouldn't take anything that wasn't a late-model EMD, so much for the museum part of their name). By this time, the 606 saga had drug on for a couple of years. I actually contacted museums in Florida (this was a SCL unit originally), and MOT in St Louis, and all said no way. So, a month after I shot this, 606 was sold to a local who cut it up for scrap.
