Gallitzin. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, on 13 September 1964. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8591, #8823, and two more "AS" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,600 horsepower each. #8591 was built in 1955, but #8823 was built in 1951. They are pulling a 100-car eastbound coal train and are about to pass under the State Route 53 Bridge, just West of Gallitzin. The N-8 caboose is #478034. Bringing-up the rear are three EMD "breakers," headed by #9676. |
