Kansas City Southern SD40-2 648 was on a set of power parked on the New Orleans Public Belt near Carrollton Avenue. The locomotive was an early SD40-2 - having been built in November 1972 - and had been overhauled shortly after its fifteenth birthday. It received this white paint job – complete with larger easy-to-read cab numbers - on 20 October 1988, six months after the railroad had introduced its gray paint scheme. In fact, it was the second to last unit to receive the white scheme. SD40-2 643 had been repainted gray on 28 March 1991 and still wore its nose-mounted OSCITROL signal light as well as ditch lights.. |
