SOU FTA 6103
Southern Railway 6103 led an A-B-A set of FT units and a caboose eastbound (timetable north) at the Elysian Fields Avenue grade crossing on the railroad’s New Orleans Terminal Co. subsidiary. The engines and cab were on their way from the roundhouse on North Scott Street, near BERNADOTTE YARD, to pick up a train at PRESS STREET YARD. Up until 1935 the NO&NE crossed the Pontchartrain Railroad – a subsidiary of the Louisville & Nashville – at this location. The Southern built a diesel shop at PRESS STREET YARD about two years after this photo was taken, ending moves like this; and the grade crossing here was replaced by an overpass at about the same time. (approximate month and day)
