Niles. Here is the fourth of 19 original photos by George Niles, Jr., that were taken at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, perhaps during 1952. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #3742 and another locomotive whose number is not recorded. Both are K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" Class locomotives. #3742 was built in Juniata during March of 1920 and retired in January of 1949 after 29 years of faithful service. They're pulling a passenger train around the Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. |
