Portraits 2. Here is the first of two successive diesel locomotive portraits by an unidentified photographer that were taken near Cleveland, Ohio, on 14 August 1965. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6507 and #6508. Both are GF-25A's built by General Electric in April of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. Semiotically speaking, the replacement ~ namely, the "Geep" (at the left) that supplanted the steam locomotive ~ is, itself, being replaced by the next generation of diesel locomotives. (#15 of 30) |
