PRR 6503, GF-25A, 1966
Volkmer. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by William D. Volkmer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 22 May 1966. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6503, #6512, and #6515. All are GF-25A's built by General Electric and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #6503 was constructed in April of 1965, while #6512 and #6515 were build in December of the same year. In this context, they're parked just East of the 12th Street Footbridge, awaiting their next helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. The structure at the right is part of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops. ("PrrFan18n")
