Southern Pacific 1285 sts on display outside Dennis The Menace Park in Monterey. the 1285 was built by SP in the early 20s as an 0-6-0 switcher. When Southern Pacific ended steam operations in 1956, the railroad donated the engine to the City of Monterey. To move the engine from hte Monterey rail yard, a company of soldiers from the 84th Engineering Battalion used an M26 armored recovering vehicle to move the engine to its current location. |
