A semi crosses the UP Coast Line at Castroville. Castroville was once a junction with the Southern Pacific Monterey Branch back when SP controlled the Coast Line. Not long after the UP takeover, the line was abandoned due to lack of use, as most of the industries in Monterey had either closed or shifted to other means of shipping their goods. The junction is a wye that is a few hundred feet farther from the camera than the semi. Today, Castroville is mostly a tourist town, well-known for its artichokes. 200th Uploaded Image from California |
