Amtrak 166 is the second unit on the southbound Coast Starlight passing through Tamien Station. 166 and leading unit 144 are running elephant-style today, and were both built in 2001. 166 has an interesting feature that appears to unique to it; a silver pilot. The front pilot of Amtrak P42s are usually dark gray, but 166's is a unique silver color. I don't know if this is some unique repaint, or merely a symptom of road-wear. EDIT: 6 months after this image was taken, Amtrak 166 was involved in a fatal collision and derailment in Mendon, Missouri. |
