SLSF 4-6-4 #1062 - St Louis-San Francisco
Beautiful example of the St Louis-San Francisco West Springfield Shops rebuilding a 1917 Baldiwn 4-6-2 Pacific into a more powerful 4-6-4 Hudson in 1937. Note the "semi-streamlined" look achieved by the addition of the wide side valence above the running gear of this freshly rebuilt loco. Clever and inexpensive! The Hudson served until it was scrapped in January of 1952. Hudson specs - serial #45464, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb. R. Wolf took the photo while the loco was in the 19th Street yard.
