IC 2-8-2 #1426 - Illinois Central         
Looking like a picked over carcass already, this Lima 2-8-2 Mikado sits forelornly in the Proviso Yards awaiting the final scrapper's torch. Built by Lima in October of 1923 as Illinois Central #1938, the IC shops rebuilt and renumbered it to IC #1426 in January of 1943. The loco was finally sold for scrap in May of 1955, 6 months before this picture was taken. New rebuilt specs - 63.5" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 308,500 lb and tractive effort of 65,868 lb No photographer was listed for the photo.
