Photo provided by John Duresky who says "My grandfather Clarence Ichabod Whipple is in front of the 8012 at the Milwaukee Road roundhouse in La Crosse. He is the second person down under the #8 [below headlight] with his hands on his knee. I don't know when this photo was taken, best guess is around 1940 +/- 5 years." William Kratville's "Cornhusker Club" (Postcard Photo)
Description:
Built by the Pullman Company in Chicago, IL as "Mt. Doane". The car was used in general service by Pullman for over 30 years. During World War II it was used on troop trains and also as a press car for the Truman Whistle Stop Tour of 1948. "Mt. Doane" was taken out of service and put into government storage in 1961 for possible use during the Korean War. In 1962, the "Mt. Doane" was purchased by William Kratville and put back into service as the "Cornhusker Club" to transport fans to Nebraska football games, and for other charters. Around 1975, Kratville donated the car to the Durham Museum in Omaha Union Station. See http://www.durhammuseum.org Photo date & location are rough estimates.

US Steel Straight Deck Ore Carrier Arthur M. Anderson
Description:
The Anderson is shown inbound about to pass through Duluth's famous "Aerial Lift Bridge" on her way to DM&IR ore docks to load iron ore. The Anderson later became famous on Nov 10, 1975 as the boat traveling with the doomed Edmund Fitzgerald. The Anderson survived that night and continues in service in 2010, modernized with added length and self unloader.
