Kansas City Southern GP40 753 was parked at WEST YARD, just outside of New Orleans. It had been built in October 1968 as Penn Central 3178 (EMD 34619) and was acquired by the KCS in January 1984, after its initial 15-year lease expired. It was renumbered 4753 in early 1991 and was sent it to Morrison-Knudsen in August 1991 to be upgraded into a GP40M-2. It was released as the 4790 on 12 December 1991 and was subsequently renumbered 2837. |
