DLW GP9 #514 - Delaware, Lackawanna & Western |
Description: |
Originally built by EMD as Nickel Plate Road #514 in March of 1958, this GP9 eventually found its way to Steamtown USA in Scranton, PA, painted as a Delaware, Lackawanna & Western loco for use on the tourist trains. While at Steamtown, the loco was repainted at one time as NKP 514. An unknown photographer caught it heading up one of the Steamtown tourist trains on this day in May. |

Diesels too |
Description: |
Steamtown had a good roster of diesels from the late steam era-sometimes there were more of them running than steam power. We see two from that period, DLW 637, an F 7, and DLW 514, a GP 7, along with D&H 7312. The D&H unit would not come along til the 70s, but the colors date to the early 60s. The 514 was something of a chameleon. It also wore the colors of NKP, same number, while it was at Steamtown. |
