Title:
PRR 7070, EFS-17M, 1964
Description:
4th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 15 August 1964. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #7070, #9648-B, and #2246. All were built by EMD. #7070 is an EFS-17M built in 1956 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. #9648-B is an EF-15A built in 1950 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #2246 is an EF-22 built in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. They have pulled a train of empty hopper cars to a point midway between the 7th Street Bridge (not shown) and the 4th Street Bridge (visible in the distance). They have stopped, and await orders to proceed up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West.

Title:
PRR 2246, EF-25, 1966
Description:
Winter Day. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during February of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2246, #2429, and another unit whose number is not recorded. #2246 is an EF-25 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2429 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 12th Street Bridge with a mixed-cargo freight train on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. The two-story gray building on the left is the Railway Express Office; two of the PRR 12th Street Car Shop buildings are partially visible on the right. Visible in the distance is the 7th Street Bridge.
